in Press Releases July 6, 2023 1 min read

COLUMBUS, Ohio — This week the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) announced additional recipients for its new Mural Assistance grant program. Due to remaining funds available in the program, three new nonprofits and eight new artists were awarded a total of $60,500.

The program was designed to provide supplemental support for artists and nonprofit organizations creating murals in the city of Columbus. Twenty-three murals selected for funding for eight organizations and 15 individual artists, totaling $123,000, were announced in April of this year. Between these two rounds of funding, a total of $183,500 was awarded for the inaugural program.

Grants for Organizations

Grants for organizations were open to any registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in the city of Columbus; they were not limited to arts-focused organizations. The funding can be used for the creation of exterior murals by Columbus-based artists where a specific wall is identified, maintenance is planned and there is a written contract between artist(s) and the commissioning organization. Some of the awarded organizations have selected artists already, while others will be publishing calls for artists soon.

The newly funded organizations include:

Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus $15,000
Economic and Community Development Institute $13,500
Zora’s House $8,000

Grants for Individual Artists

Grants for individual artists are designed to provide partial funding for the creation of exterior murals where a specific wall is identified, there is a written contract between artist(s) and the commissioning organization, and additional funding has been pledged or secured.

Artists receiving funding in this additional round include:

Julia Barrett $3,000
Emily Buttermore $3,000
Amy Cowan $3,000
Sabrina Garcia-Santos $3,000
Katie Golonka $3,000
Brandi Grammas $3,000
Johnny Hunter $3,000
Kenia Lamarr $3,000

TOTAL: $60,500

The awarded mural projects should be completed between within 12 months of the award date.
