COLUMBUS, Ohio — Nominations are now open for the Greater Columbus Arts Council’s (GCAC) 2023 Dale E. Heydlauff Community Arts Innovation Awards, which recognize innovative projects or initiatives that have used the arts to address larger community issues of diversity, inclusion, equity or social justice. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 8 at 5 p.m.

Two $5,000 awards will be presented to the selected award recipients. Projects completed since September 2022 are eligible for this award. Dale E. Heydlauff provided matching funds to make these awards possible.

The Dale E. Heydlauff awards will be presented at the 2023 Big Arts Night at the historic Southern Theatre on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m., along with the recipients for the Michael B. Coleman Arts Partner and the Arts Educator award, which will be selected by the GCAC board of trustees and announced in September. Other 2023 award recipients recognized at Big Arts Night will be the 2023 Artists Elevated recipients and finalists, and the 2023 Hanley Award recipient. These award winners will also be announced in September.

In addition, the two Columbus Makes Art Excellence Award winners will be revealed during Big Arts Night. These cash awards are presented to nonprofit arts organizations, one to a large organization with a budget of $1 million or more and one to a small organization with a budget under $1 million, for programming that fits the criteria of risk, innovation and excellence. GCAC operating, general and project support grant recipients are invited to self-nominate for this award, with finalists and winners selected by the GCAC board of trustees.

Big Arts Night includes the awards presentation and a party that follows in the Westin Great Southern Hotel. This year’s event will also celebrate GCAC’s 50th anniversary. The event is free but registration is required and will open in September.
